2007
Juan picks up his first set of tools as a carpenter — wood finishing becomes his craft.
2008–18
Project after project, he expands into reading blueprints, coordinating trades, and the full GC skill set. Remodeling becomes his specialty.
2019
Fishing at Alturas Lake, the decision crystallizes. He founds Alturas Construction LLC.
Today
Nearly 100 people. Ground-up builds, remodels, framing, finishes — and rescuing stalled projects across the valley.
Alturas Construction was born from a moment of clarity on the water. In 2019, founder Juan was fishing at Alturas Lake when he made the decision that would change everything: to take over a decade of hard-earned experience and build something of his own.
The name was a natural choice. That quiet lake represented the peace, purpose, and perspective that had always guided his work.
But the story truly begins in 2007, when Juan picked up his first set of tools as a carpenter. Wood finishing was his craft and his calling — the thing he did better than anyone else in the room. There was a precision and artistry to his work that caught people’s attention early on, and it became the foundation everything else was built upon.
Over the years, Juan refused to stay in one lane. Project after project, he expanded his skill set — learning to read and interpret blueprints, identifying structural challenges, coordinating with trades, and understanding what it truly takes to bring a project from concept to completion. He developed the sharp eye of a seasoned general contractor: someone who can walk onto a job site, assess what’s working, what isn’t, and what needs to change to get things right.
It was during this time that Juan discovered a natural gift for remodeling. Clients noticed it too. The compliments were consistent — not just for the quality of the work, but for his instinct in transforming existing spaces into something better than the owners had imagined. Remodeling became his specialty, and the demand kept growing.

What started as a vision to serve homeowners seeking a dramatic makeover has grown into one of the region’s most trusted full-service construction companies. Since opening our doors, Alturas Construction has completed hundreds of projects — and perhaps our proudest statistic is this: 99% of our business has come through referrals. Not advertising. Not cold outreach. Word of mouth, from satisfied clients who trusted us enough to send their family, friends, and colleagues our way.
That kind of trust doesn’t happen by accident. It’s earned on every job site, every day.
Today, Alturas Construction employs nearly 100 people and serves clients across a wide range of project types — from ground-up new construction to framing, residential and commercial builds, and interior and exterior finishes. While remodeling remains close to our roots, we now see an equal split between remodel and new construction projects.
Our years of remodeling gave us something invaluable: a deep understanding of what’s inside the walls. By working through hundreds of existing structures, we’ve developed an instinct for quality, for problem-solving, and for what a truly well-built project looks like from the inside out. That knowledge informs everything we build today.

Juan,

Juan will be the first to tell you he came from humble beginnings. What he had was a strong work ethic, a natural talent with his hands, and a vision that was anything but small.
After more than a decade of perfecting his craft, he took the leap and built Alturas Construction from the ground up — and he’s never lost sight of where he started or who he’s building for. His clients are the most important people in his world, professionally speaking, and he approaches every project with a personal commitment to deliver.

Beyond the job site, Juan is deeply invested in the community around him. He makes it a point to support local vendors — not just at company events and retreats, but throughout the construction process itself.
He’s also quick to credit the people closest to him. His wife and two children are his foundation — the support system that makes everything possible. And his team at Alturas? He considers them indispensable. Without them, he’ll tell you plainly, none of this exists.
Juan continues to invest in the future of construction — in his people, in his craft, and in the clients who trust him to build the spaces where their lives happen.
